I’d never thought about intelligence/knowledge in this way. I could say, the essentially academic, closeted, intelligence is one of hyperspecialisation; that is, it utterly dominates an outsider, within a typically narrow domain. Outside of that domain, it is useless.

I’ve met several journalists. At least one is most likely an Intelligence officer (journalism seems the cover of choice). Another, occupying a senior position at a major German newspaper, had never heard of the Alt-Right or Breitbart when we met in summer 2016. His specialty was politics.
He struck me as a midwit, a nice guy but too young and too mediocre and ignorant for his job.
Unless, that is, one supposes intelligence and knowledge are incidental in this career.
And then, I ask, what is essential?
My first storm here I learned that no one had bothered to service the city’s snow removal equipment. In fact, much of it was either disabled or missing. I recall that half the plows were either broken or unaccounted for, so snow removal was a comical failure. When your focus is on today, that is you have a high time preference, planning for even predictable eventualities is beyond your scope of interest.
This, of course, is a great way to introduce people to evolutionary concepts regarding human diversity. A thousand generations in a place without snow and inevitably the humans will adapt to a life without snow.

I was at best mildly entertained by Rowling when I read her first book, nearly twenty years ago. I felt no desire to read the sequels but watched all of the films, enjoying them mostly for the traditional aesthetics and Gary Oldman. As I became politically aware, I came to detest her. She is in every sense predictable; hence, she is beloved of NPCs.
A single mother who apparently made disastrous relationship choices, worked for Amnesty International, and was described by all who knew her as unexceptional; suddenly, like Ben Shapiro and Jordan Peterson, elevated to wealth and celebrity, in her case due to a mediocre Young Adult novel.
All she would need, to complete the picture, would be a post in Goldman Sachs and membership of the Council on Foreign Relations or NXIVM, and a few photos of her beaming with a Clinton or George Soros or Jeffrey Epstein.
I wonder if this predictable women has any inkling, amidst her mansions and celebrity, of her actual vacuity; of why she was chosen and suddenly became so wealthy, so successful. If so, I doubt it would perturb her, for after all she can always hire private security to guard her estates, while the rest of Europe burns.
